Agenda
  • 09:30-10:00 Registration
  • 10:00-11:00 Regulatory landscape - Enabling carbon removals

Prof. Dr. Detlef Sprinz, PIK—Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research

Net zero goals have been announced by most major greenhouse gas emitters emitters around the world, yet many countries are backloading on their own net zero plans.  This presentation will provide an overview of front-loading vs. backloading of announced emission reductions by UNFCCC members and highlights the crucial role that carbon removals, both temporary and permanent, will play if net zero goals are to be implemented.  Political forecasts of German government carbon removal payments will be assessed, and I outline future research to forecast future European laws & regulations pertaining to carbon removals.
  • 11:00-11:30 Corporate demand for carbon removals - study

    Dr. Sergey Ivliev, Vlinder, PWS

We present the findings of the study of corporate demand for carbon removals, based on unique dataset on GHG Emissions of top #200 companies from Forbes 2000 collected by Robert Höglund. We estimate corporate demand in 2030 for durable CDRs, NbS removals, and avoidance credits for 4 diverse groups of companies conditional to the assumptions on revenue growth, forward prices, reduction targets and compensation/neutralization strategy.
  • 11:30-11:45 Break

    Sergei Nozdrenkov, Wildflow

Explore the future of marine ecosystems through the lens of AI (like foundation models for biodiversity, predictive modelling, etc). We will learn what are the biggest bottlenecks in data analysis for creation of marine protected areas and how we can accelerate biodiversity research, conservation and make industrial activities more sustainable. The workshop is aimed to empower participants with knowledge on managing and understanding biodiversity data. Attendees will learn how to store, process, and analyze biodiversity data in the cloud, transforming it into actionable insights. The workshop covers how to standardize data into a time-series geospatial format, utilize AI for analysis, and share findings globally.
